Neethane En Ponvasantham Review

Official Poster

Neethane En Ponvasantham, latest flick by Director Gautham Vasudev Menon sir after his Nadunissi Naaygal. Neethane En Ponvasantham is a romantic drama genre film which exposed the urban teenagers love and their life style. Neethane En Ponvasantham cast by Jiiva as Varun, Samantha as Nithya, Santhanam as Prakash and Vidyullekha Raman as Jenny. This story penned by Reshma Ghatala; M. S Prabhu and Om Prakash handled camera; Music provided by Maestro Ilayaraja sir and Screenplay and Direction by Gautham sir. Neethane En Ponvasantham narrating a long sweet love experience from being childhood friends until becomes a matured couple and how the couple facing the conflicts caused by their misunderstandings and egoistic characteristic itself.

Gautham sir moves on this story with realistic with what usually will happen between couples. He also described the egoistic character which usually seems not less at urban boys and girls. Varun and Nithya always arguing each other and at last that will bring a big gap between them because of their egoistic which not allowing tolerant at all. Even that scene repeating in film in all different ages but still it’s never feel so draggy or bored because that’s obviously happened among the couples nowadays, so it seems very realistic. Never the less, that will also help nowadays couples to realize what they have done to their partner so far and what they should not do after this. This information is worth to mention in this review seems the film’s caption is ‘This could be your love story’ and obviously that will be for most of the couples who have seen the film. Furthermore, Gautham sir gave extra important to Nithya’s role in this film which means he gave attention to girls’ point of view for certain conflicts in relationship. Gautham sir also clearly has revealed the guys point of view in a relationship; especially when Varun realize that he must play his part to upgrade his family status as a very important responsible towards his parents and this realization usually will come to boys after 21 years old and usually will be the reason for most of the break-up nowadays. Big scale changes will happen to girls in case of outlook, attire, attitude once they enter into age of 23 and above and they will look very new and beautiful when appear suddenly after long gap and this will usually happen; Gautham sir has showed that also via Santhanam and Jenny relationship and that scene successfully get huge response from audience because ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ concept which applied on their character just for humor reason. Gautham sir still applied some ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ style in his ‘Neethane En Ponvasantham’ even this two film has their own screenplay; Varun dialogue to Nithya when she leave to overseas for holiday, ‘Yenneku ange terinje ponnu irukka…. Avale konjam seekiram vare sollu… Inge oruthe avale rombe miss pannuranu sollu’, which actually meant to Nithya is similar with Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya climax scene when Karthik and Jessy at a park in United State and the dialogues comes like this; ‘Aama irukka… Ave nadakkum pothu oru maari sirippa irukkum… Innum ave tha irukka en vaalkaiyile… Ave peru Jessy’. Gautham sir beautifully showed how the egoistic character in a person brings loses for a person especially in relationship. Same goes to Gautham sir’s Minnale; a marriage scene become a climax in Minnale and same goes to Neethane En Ponvasantham. Reema will make last minute decision in Minnale and for Neethane En Ponvasantham, Varun made the last minute decision. Additionally, Gautham sir really rocks with his voice by singing the evergreen Neethane En Ponvasantham song from Ninaivelam Nithya film for Varun character. Well known that Gautham sir always got never less interest in music and he always move on with music and obviously that’s make him to lend his voice for this film.

In case of cast, Jiiva and Samantha really gave their best for this film. Jiiva really adapted the Varun character for this film. Seems there are more close up shots for Jiiva, he has brought the emotion to his face for all the scenes especially during argument between Varun and Nithya. Jiiva has performed very naturally and the dialogue deliveries are with the real flow. Jiiva as Gautham sir’s Varun, beautifully performed the romantic sequences with Nithya such as conversation inside car before the first kiss and argument scene with Nithya at Tsunami Colony. At the other hand, Samantha also exposed the Nithya character extra-ordinarily. Seems Gautham sir gave more important for girl’s point of view in this film, Samantha has made great effort for this film and that obviously seen in the film. Especially for argument scenes, Samantha really brought Nithya’s emotion, feelings and frustration on his face with tears which really create great impact among audience. Moreover, Samantha herself did dubbing for Nithya’s role and that’s also awesome because Samantha successfully brought in the tears into her voice also. There was huge different in Nithya’s outlook also according to age character which actually meant to Samantha's hard work towards this film. On other part, Santhanam also plays Prakash role very well in the film and as usual his timing dialogues really make audience to laugh for maximum. Other than comedy, Santhanam also plays an important role in this film as Varun’s close friend Prakash which accompanied and helped Varun to overcome his conflicts in his relationship with Nithya. Same goes to Vidyullekha Raman, plays a cute plus important role in film. Even a new comer, she successfully gets audience applause.

M.S Prabhu and Om Prakash as Director of Photographers have provided very good visuals for the film. The color tone successfully brought audience back to 80’s. Many long take in this film and of course the credits goes to DOP’s and actors who effort to make it. Especially the argument scenes at age of 20th at house roof port because that was a bit long argument when Varun told Nithya that he have to go to Kerala and Gautham sir successfully made it in one long take. Of course this credit goes to DOP’s because they have done it with beautiful camera movement. Without forgetting, this credit goes to Jiiva and Samantha also because they successfully made the long scene with constant emotion and body language. Gautham sir’s imagination has been beautifully captured by the DOP’s. Tsunami Colony shots and climax kissing shots are really awesome with sunlight.

Isaigani Ilayaraja sir brilliantly provides music for the film according to the needs. All the songs are superb and that’s really suits with the situation of scene in film. Raja sir’s background score as usual make audience to go deeper into the scene. Vaanam Melle song really amazing with  visuals and Raja sir’s voice and moreover his climax conflict humming for Nithya was amazing.

Neethane En Ponvasantham, a film for destroy ego between relationship and of course a film to experience beautiful love and romance. Neethane En Ponvasantham produced by  Reshma Ghatala, Venkat Somasundaram, Elred Kumar, Jayaram, Gautham Menon sir under RS Infotainment and Photos Kathas Production.

Thuppakki Movie review

Official Poster

Thuppakki is Director A.R. Murugadoss sir’s latest flick after 7-aam Arivu. Thuppakki is how a military man solving a major bomb blasting mission of sleeper cells in Mumbai by his own efforts and applying his intelligent in this mission.  Thuppaki cast Vijay, Kajal Agarwal, Satyan, Vidyut Jamwal, Jayaram and many more. One of India’s leading cinematographer come director, Santosh Sivan sir handled camera for this film. Harris Jayaraj as Director A.R. Murugadoss’s pair as always scored music for Thuppaki. Editor A. Sreekar Prasad handled cuttings.

Director A. R. Murugadoss sir has written this story very interestingly, how an army man will think and how he will handle a conflict. Some more, the director screen played this film like puzzle which going one by one. The sequence has their continuity one to another and don’t have any jumping sequences. Jagdish start his mission with only one sleeper cell which found at bus and how he destroying the whole sleeper cell network with having only one sleeper cell as clue is the entire story about. But still there are very few scenes has less logics in the film; Jagdish has request ex- army officers who became disable during wars to prepare a plastic explosion at the climax but why he need to ask the favor to them?; but still it’s understandable that the director trying to reveal the sacrifices of the indian army officers towards the country in that sequences. Other than that, the climax fight scene also less logic; Jagdish ask the villain to untie him and the villain also did that to show how his manly daring which very heroism and usually happen in Tamil cinema.

Cinematographer come director, Santhosh Sivan has handled camera very well for Thuppakki. Night sequences lighting very firm especially the table talk scene with blue and red lighting make the scene livelier. Also the fighting sequences has captured more creatively. Santhosh Sivan sir has visualized all the songs amazingly. Vennilave Tharaiyil song’s visual is really impressive; the location add more credits for the song; the shots are amazing with sun light especially in front of lake view shot Vijay dancing on the bench is beautiful with sunlight effects. Alaika Laika song’s gold tone is very nice which gave a rich look for the visual. Kutti Puli Kootam song’s visual is very colorful and give a fresh look for the audience. Google google song’s shots are creative with lighting. Director A. R. Murugadoss sir and Santhosh Sivan sir came on screen for this song is really cool.

Another part, Harris Jayaraj has scored songs and background scores for Thuppakki. All the songs are super hit for now. Google Google, sung by Vijay became very catchy. Harris Jayaraj’s background score add credit for many scenes. The theme music seems keep on repeating many times; even Jagdish theme music but it will more nice if the theme music played in many version according to the sequences. As always Harris songs become hit and will rule for few months and that’s also applicable for Thuppakki songs.

Thuppakki is an action- thriller with romantic film. Satyan also played an important role in this film as Jagsdish’s close friend. Even Satyan make few comedy sequences with story but still he played a heavy role in this film. Actor Vijay has contributed his best to this film and for sure he will rise more if he being choosy to his story with less of heroism. At last, Director A. R. Murugadoss make this film as his dedication to Indian Army. Thuppakki  produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu and distributed by Gemini Film Circuit.

Maattrraan Movie Review

Official Poster

Maattrraan is a combination of action and science – fiction genre. A KV Anand film after his super hit film ‘Ko’. Maattrraan is about conjoining twins Vimalan and Agilan who love each other very much but having different mentality; one were killed in a fight and the story begins once another one start to find the truth behind his brother’s dead. As always, KV Anand has put effort to explore new technologies in visual quality in his Maattrraan also. Maattrraan script also got minimum similarity with KV Anand’s ‘Kanaa Kanden’; creating scientific formula to get a new liquid product. Surya did double roles as Vimalan and Agilan in this film; Kajal Agarwal as Anjali.

Maattrraan is a good concept taken by KV Anand. Touching social issues is also his style to make the script more realistic and logic and also to create social awareness among the audience; Thailand’s conjoining twins issue was very famous few years back. Another part, producing poisoned children milk also was very hot issue at China few years back. So, creating social awareness in films is KV Anand style as always for an example, youth politics in Ko; method of international smugglers and the effects in Ayan. At that part, Maattrraan is very good social awareness film which talks about poisoned children milk, producing by some company for their own benefits. At the same time, nowadays parents also easily get influence by this kind of products just to make sure their kids perform well in short term period which really effect coming generation.

First part of the film makes the audience to understand the subject. KV Anand as a good twist maker purposely showed some characters oppositely to the audience. The Ukvania journalists Volga showed like spy and brings negative influence which actually not. Same things goes Energion milk powder owner Ramakrishna (Surya’s father). Another big twist in this film is what were happened to the conjoining twins, Vimalan and Agilan and Agilan’s self-transformation is another big plus point in the screenplay.

At the second part, the script needed more action sequence to create more impact to the audience. Agilan’s easy enter inside Ukvania’s army territory were less of logics. An army territory always surrounded with tight security system but Agilan easily crossed them and pulled down some of their soldiers. The team should include some large scale action sequences in this scene to create more logics and also to bring the climax impact to the audience. ‘Kaal Mulaithe Poove’ song and also Agilan’s romantic scenes with Anjali at second part is unnecessary at that point; those sequences destroying Agilan eagerness to find the truth; also allow the audience to come out from the screenplay temperature which is not good.

Director of Photography of the film S. Sounder Rajan has done a great job. His shots gave fresh feeling to the audience. S. Sounder Rajan as KV Anand’s assistant before should get his full guide to be succeed. The climax fighting shots was very impact. Most importantly, should have put extra effort make the conjoining twins scenes because that needs very good camera works to create very firm VFX over the shots. Song visualization and the location selection was wonderful especially ‘Naani Koni’ song; KV Anand frequently like to choose mount top locations. At VFX site, Indian Artist has contributed very good work for Maattrraan especially the conjoining twins shots in same frame; the scenes looks very firm and realistic. He used Performance Capture Technology as basis to show both Suriya’s acting and motions in same frame. VFX Supervisor, Srinivasan Mohan as one of the famous VFX creator in India, really support a lot to make sure Indian films especially Tamil films keep on improving visually and also technically.

Harris Jayaraj music and background scores really makes the audience to go along with the story. ‘Rettai Kathirey’ as intro song is cream of the cake in this album. Maattrraan is creating social awareness in entertain coming action form. Maattrraan  is produced  by AGS Entertainment and distributed by Eros International.

I wrote this review to share my views towards the movie and also to improve my film knowledge. Please forgive me if you feel I have written something wrong. Thank You.

Mugamoodi Movie Review

Mugamoodi Official Poster

Mugamoodi, the first tamil superhero movie has been captained by Director Mysskin. Director Mysskin’s childhood interest, reading super hero comic books inspired him to make such a film. Mugamoodi is about an ordinary teenage guy, Anand known as Bruce Lee  who initially came with such a get up to impress a girl he admired but unfortunately he clashed with Angusaamy and his robbery team; kills Anand’s friend which situated Anand to maintain the Mugamoodi get up to revenge Angusaamy and also to hide himself from police. Mugamoodi casted by Jiiva as Anand known as Bruce Lee, Pooja Hedge as Shakti, Narain as Angusaamy, Nassar as Gaurav, Selvaa as Kung Fu Master Chandru and more.

The film mostly based on night sequence and the visual was simply impressive which able to give the night thrilling emotion to the audience. The credit should go to the Cinematographer Sathya; the lighting really plays important part in this film because holding a lot of night sequences. The blue and yellow lighting make the visuals more happening and adaptive. ‘Vaaya Moodi Summa Iruda’ song visualization was fulfilled with beautiful creative shots and the locations are very fresh to the audience which really adds credits to the film. Sathya showed the intro of Mugamoodi with beautiful movements and angles; this sequence is very important to the film because here the Mugamoodi were exposed to the audience and it must create a positive reaction from the audience as a first impression over the super hero character.
Mugamoodi songs and background scores was composed by young musician Krishnamurthi known as K. Background scores also plays important part is this film as booster for the intro of Mugamoodi and also for the action sequences. ‘Vaaya Moodi Summa Iruda’ song as cream of the cake in this album which earns good response from the audience. Director Mysskin is very clear what the needs of the story; he just slotted only two songs in this film. ‘Naatule – Bar Anthem’ song is sung by Mysskin himself and the song got touch of ‘Kannadasan Karaikudi’ song from his previous film Anjaathey in case of concept and choreography. It seems Director Mysskin interested in bar songs and he like to have that kind of songs in his films.

Another important element in Mugamoodi is the stunts that involved in this film. In another side, Mugamoodi also is a film for martial arts, Wing Chu. The stunts were choreographed by Tony Leung from Hong Kong. Tony Leung is very experienced stunt master and also has worked with Bruce Lee in the film ‘Enter the Dragon’. Stunt movements been visualized very closely and various angle and that support for the sequence to form as full action pack sequence for the film. In other part, Mugamoodi costume was designed by Gaebriella Wilkins, who has worked with Disney land and Cirque du Soleil. The blue black costume suits the film climates very well to visualize beautiful dark and shadow shots and also to show Mugamoodi as super hero impressively.

Mugamoodi edited by Gaugin. The story running is up and down. Some sequences were a bit draggy and incomplete. Especially the stunt sequence between Angusaamy and Master Chandru; the story never tell how Angusaamy killed master Chandru. The stunt sequence was handled very well by Editor Gaugin. As casting part, Jiiva has put good effort for highlighting then mugamoodi character especially learned Wing Chu and wearing the weight costume.  Pooja Hedge as Shakti role also noticeable because she is the main reason for the form of Mugamoodi who initially just came for impresses her. Director Mysskin has narrated and brought the script very well. His style of direction can see very well in Mugamoodi. This film produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur under the studio UTV Motion Pictures.

Billa II Review

Billa II Official Poster

Billa II been released worldwide on 13th July 2012 in more than 2500 theaters. Billa II is about how an ordinary man becomes an international don who originally came to Tamil Nadu as refugee and his previous life that filled with suffering. Billa II starring Ajith Kumar, Parvathy Omanakuttan, Bruna Abdullah, Vidyut Jamwal, Manoj K. Jayan, Sudhanshu Pandey and more. Director Chakri Toleti has written the script with Era Murukan and Jaffer Mohammed. The visual sense of the film really adds credits to the movie with many awesome angles and shots; R.D. Rajasekhar handled camera for Billa II.

The first part of the film is has been handled very persist by the team. The first part is about the intro of David Billa who came as refugee and how he build up his status; there are very less dialogs but still the screenplay never gave a boring impact to the audience. Suresh Urs has done a good job as Editor by make sure the part is not boring; showing every movement of David Billa very impressive with R. D. Rajasekhar’s wonderful visuals. Of course the Art Director V. Selvakumar played very important role in the movie especially in the first part; the location and set which used to place the refugees is very realistic. Even there are very less dialogs in the movie but the lines short and catchy especially David Billa’s dialogs and of course the credits goes to Unnaipol Oruvan fame Jaffer Muhammed.

Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored songs and background music for Billa II. As usual, Yuvan make a unique music for the film. His background scores really supporting the scenes to get impression from the audience. Seems, the movie has very minimum dialogs so the background scores plays important portion to fulfill the necessariesThe team has decided to make an continuity between Billa and Billa II, so theme music also inspires from Billa theme music. So, the audience can understand the continuity of the two stories. Some other aspects in the movie also purposely mentioned for the continuity; David Billa tells Jasmine that everything has been prepared in Malaysia and ask her to go there because Billa story written by Vishnuvardhan entirely based in Malaysia and also Rahman's guest appearance at the Palace of Georgia.

After the interval, Billa II screenplay continue with how David Billa become a don by facing his enemies from inside and outside of the country; from politics, underground world, police, friends and more. So the second part is about how David Billa dominating the underground world and how overcoming his enemies. In this part David Billa start exploring to international smugglers; many exotic locations were placed in the second part of the movie. A lot of shots that includes violence and crimes were visualized very well. Locations were selected for this movie is very unique and suitable for the subjects; such as Palace of Georgia, Goa, and the climax location.

Palace of Georgia scenes adds credit to the film. Director Chakri Toleti and his team had made a great effort to visualize the scene there with the cold weather. Really need thank the Indian Government for their support towards Billa II team by granted the special permission from the Government of Georgia for having shooting there behalf the film crew. Seems, the palace is personal residential area of Georgia’s president; need to thank them too for their willingness. Same goes to the climax location; the villain’s weapon factory scenes are really bombastic with gun shots with train blast sequence. Ajith sir has done a great effort to make the climax fight scene by hanging on the helicopter without using other stunt master; no wonder Ajith sir dare to make stunt  by his own in his movies to make the shot realistic; bike stunt in mankatha, car stunt in Billa and Asal.

Its nearly took 6 months for the post production work of Billa II and the result can see in the movie very well. The dry colour tone of the movie surely gives the right feeling to the audience; specially the past of David Billa giving the flashback feeling to the audience by the sepia and dry tone with wonderful colour correction.  The VFX team also has done amazing work in the movie. VFX Supervisor Madhu Sudhanan and his team surely add value to the movie especially fight scenes and also Unakkulle Mirugam song visual. The gun fires and train blast are realistic. VFX team also has brought a great idea to visualize the Unakkulle Mirugam song. The semi-animated visual for Unakkulle Mirugam song looks like Billa II's montages at the same time.

Billa II is an international standard movie in many aspects; acting, visuals, locations, stunts, and last but not least the story and screenplay as backbone of the movie. The movie is produced by Sunir Kheterpal, Suresh Balaje and George Pius under the banner Wide Angle Creations and IN Entertainment.

I wrote this review to share my views towards the movie and also to improve my film knowledge. Please forgive me if you feel I have written something wrong. Thank You.
