Saguni Movie Review

Saguni film is basically about a guy who struggles to protect his family heritage house from destroyed by the government for a railway contract. Seems nobody can help him; he became a political kingmaker which was only way to safe his family heritage house at Kaaraikudi.  Saguni directed by debutant director N. Shankar Dayal and it was huge introduction for him. The new director able to roped in many famous actors in industries other than Karthi and Santhanam for his Saguni like Prakash Raj, Kotta Srinivasan, Radhika Sarathkumar and Nasser and this combination brought a huge publicity for the film before the release. G. V. Prakash has scored music for Saguni and the tracks sounds folk and romantic genre.

The introduction song for Kamal, ‘Kandha Kara Vadai’; gave a grand opening for the movie. But the visual continuity of the song is a bit poor. Seems, Kamal describing the life of Chennai people and their daily struggles for a moment but the climate of the song is not moving consistently; day and night shots been placed repeating. Kamal wearing same costume for the entire song which means the song comes along with the story and it happens in a day. So, the visual of the song will be more realistic if it’s moving from day to night consistently. The visualization of ‘Manesellam Mazhaiye’ song is adding credit to the film cinematographer P. G. Muthiah because the shot angles and shot placing is fulfilling the frame with creativity and unique.

The first half of the film is a bit dull and the shots are look similar. Kamal’s flashback revealing is not so impressive. The first part of flashback which is about Kamal’s family and his heritage house is adding credit to the storyline because it gives a random introduction what is the story is all about.  But the other parts of the flash back keep on telling about Sri Devi and that scenes reducing audience attention on the film. This is because Saguni film trailer have created an idea among people that it’s a political thriller presentation so dragging of love flashback in the film reducing audience expectation on the film via creating dull climate.

The second half of the film is the mass part. The second half showing how Kamal planning the Tamil Nadu politics as kingmaker and how connecting each of the main characters at the climax. In this part, all the actors provided awesome performance over their character. Prakash Raj as Tamil Nadu CM, Bhupati has showed the eager to make money in politics very well. As usual he played the villain character with consistent emotion and dialogues. Nasser as Swami Ji also handled his role wonderfully; Swaji Ji’s ‘before and after’ part has created humor feeling among the audience. Same goes to Radhika. The screenplay is so interesting and fast at the second half. The film Editor A. Sreekar Prasad, able to show Kamal’s under movement in the Tamil Nadu politics very thrilling.

Even the film does not mention about current Tamil Nadu politics directly but the entire film keep on telling how a politician must think and what he or she must do for people who voted for them. The director also trying to reveal his point that the normal people can be the leader for the society and at the same time they should think how they can improve the living quality of the community who voted for them. Saguni also have critics the mentality of the community; voting based on money and short term facilities providing by the political parties just to earn the votes.

Saguni is produced by Anthony Xavier and distributed by Studio Green. Saguni is a film about how a politician should be and what he must do towards people who voted for him or her as a reply rather than kingmaker’s political game.

Vazhakku En 18/9 Review

Vazhakku En 18/9

Vazhakku En 18/9 is another impressive presentation by director Balaji Saktivel sir. He as the director and writer of the film, gives more important to the story running and the characteristic of the film. S.D. Vijay Milton handled camera for this film and the visualization was superb but still got some sequence and scene was blurring and out of focus on the screen. Maybe they did it with purpose. Editing was done by Gopi Krishna, screenplay running very interestingly after interval of the movie and it shows the advantages of the editor very well. The main roles of the film is played by Sri as Velu, Mithun Murali as Dinesh, Urmila Mahanta as Jothi, Manisha Yadav as Aarthi and Muthuraman as Inspector Kumaravel, they showed out each characters very well. Eventhought, they are new faces but their performance like matured actors especially Velu and Inspector Kumaravel.  R. Prasanna has scored music for this film, he has done a good job but never utilize this opportunity very well because the music is not that much impressive and some bgm’s are not suitable for some scenes but still his scores for some scenes really bringing the audience into the story. Hope he will improve in his next film to make sure to get a bright future soon. The film is produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Director N. Lingusamy’s Thiruppathi Brothers.

Vazhakku En 18/9 has delivered very important news as message of the film to the audience especially teenagers who get trouble via opposite sex attraction. The film explores the current higher education teenager’s mentality which is very possessive to sexual mentality and what that can cause over the innocent people. The film also showed the irresponsible and selfish characters that willing to do anything just for their own benefits especially people in higher position in the society. Other than that, Balaji sir have put some effort to create some awareness about the child working abuse; the country are huge in self-fish people. This message can see when the Sneak Factory owner refused the call for hero which bringing the news that his parents are passed away. This scene are so emotional because the innocent guy can’t even see his parents for last time, seems he suffering at Mumbai just for his parents to settle their debt.

Vazhakku En 18/9 is a low budget film obviously but still the director proved that the content and subject are more important than the film luxury. The main location of the film is road side, the mobile stall, the apartment and the hut; it was so simple, nice and needed by the script. But still the lighting of the film is a bit poor which provided noise in some shots for certain scene. Such as, the police station scene is seems a bit under expose but still that’s the one director needed maybe. The post production was done very well because the screenplay was very interesting and very minimum boring sequences. The scenes that explore Velu’s love over Jothi in until Aarthi’s flashback is so nice, humor and realistic. At the same time, Jothi’s reaction over Velu really adds points to the scenes.

At last, Vazhakku En 18/9 is very realistic film and exposing a very important message to the audience especially teenager. Seems this film were produced with very basic things and low budget; the film can be a very good tutorial to the upcoming film makers like film students, short film makers and so. Director Balaji Saktivel sir is really creating his own style and trend and he keep on moving in the same track. Vazhakku En 18/9 is an awareness movie.

This is my own review and I done this just improve my knowledge in film and production industry. Please forgive me if you feel I have written something wrong. Thank You.

Naduvan Music Video Review

NADUVAN - MUSIC VIDEO BY DR.BURN

Concept
A beautiful idea about ‘Karma’ was exposed very well via the Naduvan song and its visualization. The team have make an effort to make an awareness about the return for the devil characteristic in a human been.  God is the supreme power in this world and at same time making judgment over every human behavior as own Karma. So, they trying to increasing the spirituality among the people via telling nothing are permanent.

Characteristic
The child boy character was not that satisfy. It’s because there is low expression in his face which more important to show his hate over the God.  The young mother character was done moderate but still the fail to show an older woman for the older mother character. It’s very obvious that a young women playing the mother character for a teenage guy. The teenager character (Ganesan) has performed very well but still got some shots with over expression that showing he is acting which should not be. The Shivan character (Ravi Shankar), of course make an impact to the audience but still the character is not very realistic. They should not show the Shivan with black blanket. This is because a God character should come with nature and not with an object created by human been. Same goes to the coin scene, the director may think other way to show Shiva has come down to bring the teenager with him. This is also because the God should be very pioneer and same goes to his objects.

Directing / Cinematography
JK Wicky and Senthil Kumaran Muniandy has put an good effort to make a quality video clip in term of visual. Of course Naduvan videos clip improving local video songs quality a bit higher. But still there are some sequences or scenes can be show more impressively. The opening frame is very use to see in many clips. The Nadaraja statue can be exposed after several frames. Seems, he is the main idea of this song that can help to create suspense. The Shivan’s dancing part also is can be explore very well. The Shiva’s appear is the highlight part of the video but the director and cinematographer are fail to show Shiva’s expression very close when he dancing at the end of the video which important to create an big impact. Seems the music for that part also a bit fast, they should use the static frames and long shot very minimum and show the Shiva’s expression and dance movements very closely.

Editing / Post Production
The post production work was done very well. The color correction was done beautifully. Good visual FX are used to improve the video quality. They used gradient tone or FX in most of the frames but still there are some frames or scenes no need this FX because its reducing the realistic and originality in the video. MC DV’s shots were come out very well. The color correction was very cool and also the opening shots of Samuel J Dass.  It’s very obvious that post production work played very important role in this video.

This is my own review and I done this just improve my knowledge in film and production industry. Please forgive me if you feel I have written something wrong. Thank You.
